We are pleased to announce the next Docent Training Sessions for 2008!

       

Training sessions will be held over three consecutive Saturdays:

At the Rancho Camulos Museum School House

5164 E. Telegraph Rd. (2 miles east of Piru on Hwy 126)

Learn about:

        -how you can become involved as a volunteer or docent at Rancho Camulos

        -docent led tours for families and school children

        -our own local Californio Rancho history

        -the 1853 adobe, chapel, winery, grounds and gardens

        -the del Valle family and their impact on California development

        -Helen Hunt Jackson and her visit to Camulos in 1882 and writing of “Ramona”

        -the Rübel family and their efforts to preserve Rancho Camulos

        -how Rancho Camulos became a National Historic Landmark (1 of 135 in California)

RANCHO CAMULOS
has been designated a
NATIONAL HISTORIC LANDMARK
This residential complex possesses national
significance in commemorating the history of the
United States of America.

Ygnacio del Valle established Rancho Camulos in 1853, on part of a Mexican land grant of former mission lands. Rancho Camulos was the setting for "Ramona," an 1884 novel that generated national interest in the history of Hispanic settlement in California. August Rübel purchased the property in 1924 and preserved the significant historic features of the site.

Ygnacio del Valle estableció en 1853 el Rancho Camulos en lote de tierra donada por el gobierno Mexicano procedente de las antigues tierras de la mision. Rancho Camulos fue el escenario de "Ramona," novela de 1884, que generó interés nacional en los asentamientos Hispanos en California. August Rübel compró la propreidad en 1924 y preservó el significativo patrimonio histórico del lugar.
